Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], August 29 (ANI): Former Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur hit out at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, demanding that they immediately apologise for what he described as “abusive and derogatory” language used against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother during a public meeting in Darbhanga, Bihar, on Thursday.
Speaking to ANI in Shimla, Thakur condemned the incident in strong words. “The kind of low language used in Darbhanga to abuse the Prime Minister and his mother is unacceptable. I strongly condemn the slogans raised against the country’s respected Prime Minister from the RJD platform yesterday,” he said.
Thakur alleged that repeated political setbacks have pushed some leaders into frustration.
“Some people seem to have lost their mental balance because power is repeatedly slipping from their hands. Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav behave as if power is their birthright. Narendra Modi is not only India’s but the world’s most popular leader. Despite such attacks on him, he has become the Prime Minister for the third consecutive time and has been leading the country for the past 11 years,” he said.
Thakur pointed out that PM Modi is the second Prime Minister in independent India’s history, after Jawaharlal Nehru, to win three consecutive terms, a feat achieved after 60 years.
“Naturally, some people are rattled by his popularity. Using such cheap and low-level language, especially to abuse the Prime Minister and his mother, is something the country can never tolerate. I condemn the entire incident and demand that Rahul Gandhi and Tejashwi Yadav apologise immediately,” Thakur added.
Earlier today, the man accused of hurling abuses at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother during a political rally in Bihar was arrested, Darbhanga Senior Superintendent of Police told ANI.
This comes after an alleged video on the internet showed the accused hurling abusive slurs against PM Modi during an INDIA bloc event.
This sparked a political row in the poll-bound state of Bihar.
BJP leader Krishna Singh Kallu also filed a complaint against the Congress leader for using abusive comments against PM Modi, calling for putting a stop to the ‘Voter Adhikar Yatra’ in the poll-bound state.
The Opposition party, in turn, has hit back that the BJP is “raising ‘irrelevant’ issues to distract from the real ones. (ANI)
